There’s nothing quite like a Silkie Bantam. With their unique fluffy plumage, feathered legs, and endearing personalities, Silkies are truly the lap chickens of the poultry world. Silkies aren’t known for high egg production, but what they lack in quantity, they more than make up for in charm. They are famously broody and make excellent mothers—not only to their own chicks but often to ducklings or chicks from other breeds.

Their soft, fur-like feathers give them a distinct look and make them less water-resistant than other breeds, so dry, draft-free housing is a must. But in return, you’ll have one of the most docile, affectionate birds you can raise.
